Why a new NAF classification?

This update, initiated by INSEE, is based on two main reasons:

  • Becoming part of the international dynamic: alignment with global and European nomenclatures.
  • Reflecting changes in the economic landscape: integration of new sectors (digital, ecological transition, innovative services, etc.).

How does this development affect businesses?

The NAF is an essential tool for:

  • Administrative declarations (social security contributions, taxes, statistics, etc.)
  • Relations with public and private organizations (banks, insurance companies, calls for tenders, etc.)
  • Sector visibility (classification of its activity, market research, etc.)

What should companies do?

No immediate action required: INSEE will automatically assign a new NAF 2025 activity code to each company.

Starting in January 2026, every company will be able to:

  • Verify that the assigned code still corresponds to its main activity.
  • In case of discrepancy, contact INSEE.
  • Consult the NAF 2008 ↔ NAF 2025 correspondence table to anticipate changes.
  • Update internal documents (articles of association, contracts, declarations)
  • Anticipate potential impacts on your initiatives (grants, certifications, etc.)

What are the key dates for NAF 2025?

  • December 2024: publication of the correspondences between NAF 2008 and NAF 2025
  • January 1, 2026: NAF 2025 comes into effect (coexisting with NAF 2008)
  • January 1, 2027: NAF 2025 becomes the exclusive reference
