"The events industry had been growing for years; the economic shock produced by the Covid crisis was brutal and generated a lasting debt. Assuming a gradual and ongoing return to normalcy, it could take several years for most companies' revenues to return to their former levels."
- Max Jammot, Head of the economic department at Ellipshere
A sector struck down by the Covid crisis
This summary brings together three activities considered to be at the heart of the Events sector, where a significant proportion of the sector's organizers are found: public relations and communication consultancy (Naf 7021Z), advertising agency activities (Naf 7311Z) and the organization of fairs, trade shows and conferences (Naf 8230Z). This last activity, the one most affected by the Covid crisis, includes nearly 17,600 entities, employing 17,400 people.
Small companies and a strong geographical concentration
Geographically, the Ile-de-France region, including the city of Paris, "world champion of conventions", concentrates the professionals of the Events sector with 44% of the companies, 52% of the employees and 70% of the cumulated turnover.
It is followed by the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region and its spotlight on Lyon, then by PACA with Marseille, Nice and Cannes. These two regions account for 19.4% of companies, 30% of employees and 13.5% of the sector's revenues.
