Hauts-de-France, a region lacking in attractiveness

In 2020, with now less than 6 million inhabitants counted (9.2% of the metropolitan total), the Hauts-de-France region has dropped to 4th place in the national rankings behind Île-de-France (12 million inhabitants), Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes (8 million) and New Aquitaine (6 million).

Impact of the crisis covid

Overall in 2020, household consumption and salaried employment declined in the Hauts-de-France.
Conversely, according to INSEE, business start-ups have reached a new record high. The population of active businesses grew by 5% between January 2020 and January 2021, slightly above the national average of 4.5%.
