What is the situation at the end of May 2022 for collective procedures?

Business insolvencies still on the rise at the end of May 2022

The number of business failures (openings of receivership and judicial liquidation) increases by 10% over 12 rolling months at the end of May 2022, with nearly 31,600 proceedings opened - a number now higher than in fiscal year 2020.

Over the first five months of 2022, the trend is even more marked. The increase is 40.3% compared to the same period in 2021, with over 3,000 insolvencies recorded per month. While for the time being the numbers remain divided by three compared to the 2019 total, this monthly pace projects a figure of 38,000 procedures for the year 2022.

Same observation for safeguard procedures

The trend in safeguard procedures (809 openings) is equivalent (+9.6% over 12 months to the end of May 2022), returning to the level of 2020.

For the year 2022, the trend is towards a thousand procedures over 12 months, i.e. a return to 2018/2019 levels. Finally, the new crisis exit procedure is still little used with only 28 procedures over the first 5 months of the year.

What is the situation in the region?

From now on, almost all the regions in metropolitan France will be affected by this overall increase in claims.
with the exception of Corsica. The Hauts-de-France region is the most affected, with an increase of almost a quarter in the number of its receiverships and direct judicial liquidations.

The Bourgogne-Franche-Comté (+20%), Centre-Val de Loire and Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes (+16%) regions are also in difficulty.

In total, Île-de-France, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and PACA-Southern Region account for 47% of insolvencies in metropolitan France.

What is the situation for the sectors of activity?

Only five sectors of activity have more or less resisted the increase in the number of business failures. The Clothing-Textile-Leather sector even recorded a 10.6% drop in the number of business failures over 12 months, as did Community Services (down 6.8%).

On the other hand, the sectors most affected are Transport & Logistics (+23.7%), IT & Electronics (+23.5%), Food & Beverage (+22.3%) and Retail (+21.2%).

These sectors are more or less affected by the rise in energy prices (gas and fuel), the increase in the price of agricultural raw materials and packaging, as well as persistent supply disruptions.

In France as a whole, 53.3% of insolvency proceedings come from three sectors of activity: Construction & Public Works, Consumer Services and Business Services.
